The feature reduces typing effort for routine communications while remaining completely non-intrusive — wrong suggestions simply disappear, and the user never has to explicitly dismiss or correct a bad prediction. The subtlety of the interaction design is key: the AI assists without interrupting, enhances without demanding attention, and fails silently without creating error states.
A startup launches a product where the entire user interface — layout, copy, images, and interaction flows — is generated in real-time by AI with no human design review or quality gates, resulting in unpredictable layouts that shift on every page load, copy that occasionally contains factual errors or inappropriate tone, and interaction patterns that vary so wildly that users cannot learn how the product works. Support tickets overflow with confused users who cannot describe their problem because the interface they saw is different from what the support agent sees. The absence of human design judgment creates an experience that feels experimental rather than professional, driving away the users the AI was supposed to serve.
• The most common mistake is treating AI as a replacement for design thinking rather than a tool within it — AI can generate options, predict patterns, and automate repetitive tasks, but it cannot define what 'good' means for a specific user context, brand, or ethical framework, and teams that abdicate these decisions to algorithms produce experiences that are technically functional but emotionally hollow. Another frequent error is designing AI features without accounting for the full spectrum of AI performance: teams design for the happy path where the AI is correct and helpful, but neglect the UX of wrong predictions, slow responses, service outages, and edge cases where the model has no relevant training data.
